About me
Louise Phelan was born in Limerick, Ireland, and for over two decades has dedicated her life to teaching the Alexander Technique, working with a wide range of people from all walks of life, including professional musicians, actors, singers, orchestra and choir conductors as well as healthcare professionals in Europe and Latin America. She currently lives in Mexico City, where she continues her extensive teaching and artistic work.
Her training at the Alexander Technique Studio in London—more than 1,600 hours of study and practice—led her to become a member of STAT (UK) and ISATT (Ireland), and she is co-founder of the Mexican Association of Alexander Technique Teachers (APTAM). Simultaneously, she trained in musical theatre, acting, and singing at the London College of Music, expanding her experience with studies in body expression, improvisation, mindfulness and neurodynamics, developmental movement, craniosacral therapy, and Reiki.
He is currently writing a guide for singers called EMBODIED SINGING - SOMATIC SOUNDING for 2027.
Throughout her teaching career, she has worked with artists and students at prestigious institutions such as Arts Ed, LAMDA, The Actor's Studio, the Helios Centre and the Royal Symphony Orchestra in London; in Stockholm, Dublin and various cities in Mexico; and in university programs at UNAM, INBAL, Universidad Panamericana, Universidad Veracruzana and Tecnológico de Monterrey, among many others.
Since its inception in 2014, she has been part of the teaching staff of the Bellas Artes Opera Studio (EOBA/CNO), as well as the Musical Development Program of the Ministry of Culture, working with the Carlos Chávez School Orchestra and the Vocal Stage Ensemble since 2010. She has given workshops and seminars at festivals, universities and opera, singing and zarzuela companies in the USA, Mexico and Europe, and has been a jury member in programs such as FONCA and PRAGEI.
In addition to her work as a teacher, Louise is a singer with over 25 years of experience. Her repertoire encompasses jazz, blues, and world music. She has recorded several albums as a soloist and in collaboration, always guided by the principles of the Alexander Technique: awareness, balance, body awareness, and presence.
She also composes and writes poetry, in a constant search for new forms of expression. Her career reflects the perspective of a well-rounded artist who has made the conscious body and deep listening the center of her artistic life.
